i get 'undefined reference to 'complex()' errors on the complex() lines

So there is no place in memory where b actually resides (the reference is undefined). To deal with this, you have to manually declare it in a cpp file, with the syntax int A::b;. You don't need the () when using a default constructor nor do you need them on the object when invoking a method (you do need them on the method call itself) Auto tune and launchpad.
